Pearl & Ron Beaupre
The Fairmont Restaurant was the realization of a dream that Ron & Pearl Beaupre had when they bought their first business in Savannah, which was the Kettle Restaurant on Abercorn St. They then purchased the Kettle in Augusta, while searching for the right property at a price that they could afford in order to implement their dream of a restaurant. That restaurant would have a scatter buffet system, which was not available, even in chains at that time. They wanted to serve homemade, from fresh ingredients, healthy Southern style food. When the Beaupres accomplished this, the other two national buffet chains in town remodeled their restaurants to compete with this new Fairmont System. They proved to be a leader in this design, as most buffets now reflect this scatter system.
Their mission was to build a business where people would come and see many friends and acquaintances. In other words, a meeting and greeting place. They wanted a homey atmosphere where people of all ages, economic conditions and physical conditions would feel welcome and enjoy a great meal, with wonderful service while surrounded by people they know. They wanted to accomplish this at a price point that was very affordable.
The concept was well received when the Beaupreas bought a building that had been auctioned by the Resolution Trust Corp., as a result of a bankruptcy at that location. The Beaupres redesigned the interior, stripped everything from flooring to repainting the ceiling and replaced the dark decor with one that is bright and cheerful.
The Fairmont has gained and maintained a strong and loyal customer base through the 13 years they have been in business. They enjoy an enviable reputation, not only in Savannah, but also in the surrounding counties.
The Beaupres have been very active in our community and their church. Ron was on the Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity and Pearl is serving her second term on the Board of Directors of the Convention & Visitors Bureau. They worked closely with the USO in providing a Welcome Home Celebration to our troops that were returning from Iraq. Pearl co-chaired the food committee and Ron worked with vendors to get special pricing for the event. The Fairmont has a Community Day each month that benefits non-profit organizations by giving 10% of their sales for that day to the organization sponsored that month.
The sales of the Fairmont did not plummet during the economic downturn. They work in their small family business everyday making sure customers are taken care of and the quality of food is of the highest caliber and served at a price that is very affordable. They were very aware of the hard economic times and did not increase their prices for 2 years in consideration of their customers financial concerns. While the restaurant business is considered the industry with the highest mortality rate in America, this small business is flourishing and making a difference in this community, every day, in many ways.
